COLUMBIA — Boone County Sheriff’s Department deputies captured an Indiana fugitive Wednesday afternoon at a home in the Sturgeon area.
Sheriff’s deputies found him in a home on North Route V.
John Edward Snyder, 44, had been a fugitive since 2004 and was featured on America’s Most Wanted, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
Snyder was originally wanted on parole violations stemming from a rape conviction, as well as three counts of failure to register as a sex offender, according to the news release.
Deputies came in to contact with Snyder while they were at the home on Tuesday during a separate incident. During this encounter, Snyder presented himself as John Clark and gave a false Social Security number and date of birth, according to the news release.
The deputies later received information about Snyder’s fugitive status. After obtaining his photographs from Marion County law enforcement officials, Sheriff’s Department deputies went back to the house Wednesday and took Snyder in to custody, according to the news release.
Snyder was arrested on suspicion of identity theft, according to the news release.
As of Thursday, he was being held in the Boone County Jail prior to extradition to Marion County in Indiana.
