COLUMBIA — William McCaskill, brother of U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, was arrested Wednesday in his hometown of Holts Summit on a warrant for felony drug possession.

McCaskill, 48, was charged with drug possession on Aug. 31, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to court documents from the Boone County Circuit Court, Columbia Police found McCaskill, on Jan. 5, lying unconscious near the nightclub he co-owns, Generic, at 1019 E. Broadway. He was unresponsive at first, and appeared highly intoxicated and disoriented, the documents stated.

McCaskill had a cut above his eye and a large bruise. He was taken to University Hospital to be treated, according to the documents.

Police found a folded-up piece of paper containing a powdery white substance. A field test indicated that the powder was cocaine, according to the probable cause statement in the court documents.

Kyle McIntyre, police chief of the Holts Summit Police Department, said McCaskill was pulled over for a traffic violation Wednesday and arrested because he had a warrant against him. He was taken to Callaway County Jail and released a few hours later after posting a $4,500 bond.

William McCaskill has not responded to phone messages.

“I’m very disappointed,” Sen. McCaskill said Friday afternoon. “The law should treat him no differently than anyone else.”
